How To Apply To Join
The Orchestra gives excellent and talented amateur musicians, living in the Guelph area,
performance and musical expression opportunities and gives Guelph music lovers a high calibre
orchestra. To ensure a high calibre, the orchestra is supplemented with professional musicians
as needed.
The standard expected is at least Conservatory Grade 10 or equivalent, plus relevant
orchestral experience. If you are interested, send your resumé of qualifications and
experience to the Artistic Director (see under Contacts). An Orchestra ‘Personnel Committee’,
manages the process of ‘try-outs’, and invitations to join. If there is a vacancy (bearing in
mind that an orchestra must always be balanced), then one might be invited to ‘try-out’ in a
rehearsal or a series of rehearsals with concert, after which an invitation to join the orchestra
may be made.
Even if there is not a current vacancy for your instrument, you might want to have your name
on the Waiting List. Also from time to time, additional players may be needed for the repertoire
e.g., four horns instead of our usual two, or additional percussion.
Section leaders are paid at union scale rates, and others receive (at the discretion of the Board) a small honorarium for each concert.
